Changing and downloading themes on the Nokia 6600 Fold

If you're looking to personalise your Nokia 6600 Fold, there's a quick and easy way of giving it a whole new look, sound and feel all in one go - by changing its theme.

It takes just a few quick button presses to swap themes or download new ones to the phone, giving you the opportunity to refresh e the look of the standby screen, menu wallpapers, and even add new ringtones and message alerts to the phone.

A theme is a package of elements - wallpapers, screensavers, tones, and so on. A particular theme could have all or just some elements of these, depending on how it's been created. Nokia supplied the 6600 Fold with a small group of themes pre-loaded - and you can also get over the air downloads sent to the phone for free direct from Nokia's own mobile internet Downloads site.

But there are masses of other themes out there online you can download to customise your phone just how you want it - and many are free. Themes are available to suit every taste, from abstract art to football teams, celebrities to religious icons - the choice is amazing. You can download to your PC and copy over to the 6600 Fold via USB cable, Bluetooth or memory card.

Here we show you how to change themes on your Nokia 6600 Fold, and how to download fresh themes directly over the air...

Changing themes

1. From the standby screen, press Menu (Figure 1).
2. Highlight Settings (Figure 2). Press Select.
3. Scroll down to highlight Themes (Figure 3). Press Select.
4. You can now choose to use one of the themes already loaded onto the phone, or go online to download themes from Nokia's mobile internet download site (see below).
5. To choose a theme on the phone, highlight Select theme (Figure 4). Press Select.
6. Highlight the Themes folder (Figure 5). Press Open.
7. A list of themes appears, with thumbnail images of themes displayed (Figure 6).
8. Scroll down to highlight the theme you want to install. You will see the background change, previewing how the theme will look (Figure 7). Press Apply.
9. In a few moments the new theme will be installed, and you are returned to the Settings menu with the new background displayed (Figure 8).
10. Press the Back button and then Exit to go back through the menus to see the standby screen with the new theme displayed (Figure 9).

You can return to your original theme or install any other themes you've loaded onto the phone at any time by following the same procedure.

Downloading free Nokia themes

Although you can find lots of new themes for Nokia phones online, you can also download free themes over the air from Nokia's own download site. Note that data charges may be incurred, so check whether you have an inclusive data allowance in your airtime deal or check data costs.

1. Follow the steps outlined above to get to the Themes menu (Figure 3).
2. Highlight Theme downloads (Figure 10). Press Select.
3. When Nokia.com appears (Figure 11), press Select again.
4. The phone will go online to Nokia's mobile internet Downloads site (Figure 12).
5. Scroll to highlight Themes (Figure 13). Press Select.
6. In a few moments, a list of downloadable themes appears (Figure 14).
7. Scroll down to highlight the theme you want to download (Figure 15). Press Select.
8. Highlight Download (Figure 16). Press Select.
9. The new theme will start downloading and will be stored automatically in your Themes folder or on to your memory card. A message appears confirming this and asking: Apply now? (Figure 17). Press Yes. The new theme is applied.
10. You can download further themes before quitting the Nokia Downloads site. Press Back to return to the list of downloadable themes. Alternatively, to quit the browser press the Call End button. You will be returned to the standby screen with the new theme installed (Figure 18).

Again, you can swap back to the original theme or between any other themes loaded on to the phone at any time by following the procedure outlined above.
