The Nokia 6500 Slide's TV-out feature and bundled cable let you play slideshows and watch videos on your TV screen

The Nokia 6500 Slide's TV-out port lets you display your phone's output - photos, video clips or the operating system itself - on a big screen.

The connection cable is included with the phone. The 2.5mm jack plugs into the headphone socket at the top edge of the phone, with the three audio pins slotting into the indentically coloured sockets on your TV (white and red for audio, yellow for video).

Now you'll need to activate TV out on your Nokia 6500 Slide. To do this:

From standby mode, click Menu, highlight Settings and click Select

Highlight Enhancements and click Select

Now highlight TV cable and click Select

Before activating TV out, check that the correct TV standard is selected. In the UK and in most of Europe (though not France), Australasia and Asia this is PAL, while in the US and Canada, it's NTSC. To check the setting, highlight TV standard and click Select. Highlight either PAL or NTSC according to your location and click Select.

To activate TV-out, highlight Activate TV-out and click Select

If your phone's screen doesn't appear on your TV immediately, you'll need to find the correct AV channel on your TV. This varies according to manufacturer so check your manual on how to switch AV channels.

You'll know when you've found the correct AV channel because the display of your 6500 Slide will be replicated on the screen. This will apply to every function of the phone, apart from when you're displaying images or playing video clips through the gallery.

Displaying photos
When displaying photos, you'll see the message 'Content is shown on TV' on the screen, and the selected photo will be displayed on the TV screen. Use the up and down nav keys to scroll between images.

Alternatively, you can run a slideshow of all your images. Simply open the relevant folder, highlight the image you want to begin with, click Options, highlight Open in sequence and click Select.

Click Stop to end the slideshow at any time.

Playing video clips
To play a video clip with the TV-out cable attached, simply locate the clip in your Video clips folder and press Open. The Music player console will appear on your phone screen, but instead of appearing in the central window, the clip will play on the TV screen. Use the navigation keys on the phone to navigate between clips, play and pause, and increase or decrease volume using the rocker on the right-hand side of the 6500 Slide (remembering to turn the volume on the TV up as well).

Unlike SMS or MMS, Bluetooth is completely free to use and a great way to swap files with friends or colleagues.

Switching on Bluetooth

Bluetooth technology lets you connect your Nokia 6500 Slide to your PC, Mac or other Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones to transfer files, images and video clips between the two.

Before sending files via Bluetooth, it’s a good idea to give your phone a unique name. All Nokia 6500 Slides will have the default name ‘Nokia 6500 Slide ’, which will be visible to all Bluetooth-enabled phones in the area. To ensure files intended for you don’t get sent to other mobiles, change this by following these steps:

From the standby screen, click Menu to view the main menu.

Select Settings and click Select.

Scroll down to highlight Connectivity and click Select.

Highlight Bluetooth and click Select.

Scroll up to highlight Bluetooth settings and click Select.

Scroll down to highlight My phone’s name and click Select.

Edit the name of your phone as you prefer – add your name or initials, for instance.

Click OK. The confirmation message ‘Name saved’ will appear.

To make sure your phone is visible to other phones and PCs, after saving the name of your phone, scroll to My phone’s visibility, and if Hidden is selected, click Select. Scroll up to highlight Shown to all and click Select. The confirmation message ‘Visible to all searching devices’ will appear.

How to send a file via Bluetooth

To send a file – for instance an image, video clip, theme or ringtone – via Bluetooth, first locate and highlight the file in the Gallery. Follow these steps:

Click Options (the left selection key) and in the menu, highlight Send.

Click Select and highlight Via Bluetooth. Click Select again and your phone will search for compatible Bluetooth devices. The Bluetooth icon at the top of the screen will flash while it searches.

When the search is complete, a list of devices will appear on screen. Select the name of the destination phone or PC and click Select. The message ‘Connecting to…’ and the device name will appear.

A dialog box on the destination device will ask you to accept decline the incoming file. Click Accept and the transfer will commence.

How to receive a file via Bluetooth

To receive a file from another device, first make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your Nokia 6280. To enable Bluetooth:

From the standby screen, click Menu to view the main menu.

Select Settings and click Select.

Scroll down to highlight Connectivity and click Select.

Highlight Bluetooth and click Select.

Highlight Bluetooth. If Off is selected under Bluetooth, click Select and scroll up to highlight On. Click Select and you’ll see the confirmation message ‘Bluetooth switched on’.

Click the red End key to return to the standby screen. The Bluetooth icon should now appear at the top of the screen.

When a connected device sends a file, the message 'Receive data from?' and the name of the originating device will appear on your mobile. Click the middle selection key to accept or press the right selection key to reject the file. You have around 30 seconds to accept or reject.

If you accept, the standard message alert tone will play and notification of an image or file received will appear on your phone. Select Show to view and you’ll be taken to the destination folder in your Gallery.
