Sending & receiving bookmarks with the 6300

Want to share your favourite mobile web pages? Well now you can!

Sending bookmarks
You can send bookmarks to other mobile phones, via SMS, infra-red or Bluetooth. To send a bookmark:

  • On the Bookmarks screen, highlight the bookmark you want to send.
  • Click Options, highlight Send and click Select.
  • A choice of sending methods will appear:
    • Via multimedia: adds the bookmarked URL to an MMS message;
    • Via infrared: sends bookmark and title directly via an infrared link;
    • Via Bluetooth: sends bookmark and title directly to another Bluetooth-enabled mobile. Remember the other phone needs to have Bluetooth activated before sending the bookmark – your phone does not;
    • As bookmark: sends bookmark and title as a self-contained service message;
    • Via text message: adds the bookmarked URL to an SMS message
  • Highlight your preferred sending method and click Select.
    • If you chose one of the SMS or MMS-based methods you’ll be prompted to insert a phone number or contact name.
    • Choosing Via Bluetooth prompts the phone to search for similarly enabled devices. Highlight the destination device and click Select to send the bookmark.
    • If you choose Via infrared, line the infrared port on the 6300 (it’s on the left-hand edge of the phone) up with the infrared port of the destination phone and the bookmark will be delivered.

You can also send a web address to another mobile while you are looking at a page in your browser:

  • From the active browser page, click Options.
  • Highlight Page options and click Select.
  • Highlight Send web address and you’ll see the three options As bookmark, Via text message and Via multimedia. Follow the instructions above to send. (Bluetooth and infrared options are not available in this mode.)

Receiving bookmarks
Regardless of how a bookmark is send to you, you can import it directly into your Bookmarks list.

If it was sent Via Bluetooth, Via infrared or As bookmark:
You’ll receive notification of “1 bookmark received”. Click Show to display your New files folder. Click Select to open your Bookmarks page and the received bookmark will be added to the list.

If it was sent via multimedia or text message:
The message will arrive in the usual way. To add the new address to your bookmarks:

  • Open the message to see the address URL, and click Options.
  • Highlight Use detail and click Select.
  • Highlight Web address and click Select. The URL(s) within the message will be displayed. If there is more than one, highlight the one you want to use.
  • You can open this page in your browser now by clicking Go to, or save it by clicking Options, highlighting Add bookmark and clicking Select.
  • The bookmark will be added to your bookmarks list in URL format. You’ll have to open the Bookmarks screen and edit the new bookmark to add a title, however.

    When sent as a text message, the URL is simply added as a text to a regular SMS message, and the recipient will need to save the detail from the text to their own bookmarks
