The Nokia 5320 XpressMusic is built around its high quality music player performance, with a great array of tune-playing features and functionality. From its dedicated music player controls on the outside, to its music player technology on the inside, the 5320 XpressMusic can deliver a great mobile music experience.
The Nokia XpressMusic is geared up to maximise listening enjoyment with a 3.5mm headphone socket to plug in either the decent earphones supplied or add your own higher quality ear wear.
But in addition to that, the music player software inside the phone enables you to change equaliser settings and adjust audio controls to optimise your tune-listening pleasure. It's easy to do - here we show you how...
Changing equaliser settings
- From the standby screen, open up the music player by pressing the side Play button. Alternatively, select the Music Player icon onscreen and press the central navigation key, marked Music (Figure 1).
- Once in the music menu, you can select the track you want to listen to by scrolling to the appropriate category and pressing Open (Figure 2).
- If you've selected albums, artists or so on, carry on scrolling through and opening folders until you find the track you're after (Figure 3). Press Play.
- You can adjust sound settings while a track is playing, or if it's paused or stopped (Figure 4). Press Options and scroll down to highlight Equaliser (Figure 5). Press Select.
- In the Equaliser menu, there are a list of pre-configured equaliser settings to choose from. Out of the box, the 5320 XpressMusic will be set to Default preset (Figure 6). To change this to something appropriate for the style of music you're listening to, scroll down to highlight one of the other options on the list (Figure 7). Press Activate.
- A message appears onscreen confirming that the new equaliser preset has been activated (Figure 8).
The sound through your earphones should now appear slightly altered. You can change it back to the default setting or try another setting simply by following the procedure above. Press Back to get back to the music player screen.
Setting your own equaliser levels
As well as using the preset equaliser options, you can also devise your own. This is useful if you simply want to tweak sound settings to suit your own tastes. Or, you may be listening to a piece of music that has been badly recorded and you want to boost some frequencies and reduce levels for others.
- In the Equaliser menu (Figure 6), press Options. Scroll down to highlight New preset (Figure 9). Press Select.
- Type in a name for your new custom equaliser preset (Figure 10). Press OK.
- You are now presented with a row of sliders representing different frequency levels you can adjust (Figure 11). The lower frequencies are to the left, the higher to the right.
- Use the navigation up/down keys to increase or decrease levels of a particular slider. Use the navigation left/right keys to move between the different sliders.
- Adjust the sliders until you're satisfied with the sound levels you have (Figure 12). Once you've finished, press Back. You're taken into the Equaliser list, with your new preset highlighted (Figure 13). Press Activate. Your new preset will be implemented.
Press Back to return to the music player screen.
Changing audio settings
In addition to the equaliser settings, you can also adjust some of the basic sound settings to match your own audio tastes.
- In the Music player screen (Figure 4), press Options.
- Scroll down to highlight Audio settings (Figure 14). Press Select.
- In the Audio settings menu, you can adjust Balance (between left and right stereo channels), Loudness (on or off), and a Stereo widening effect (on or off) (Figure 15).
- To adjust Balance, highlight this option and press Change. Use the navigation left/right keys to move the slider as required (Figure 16). When you are satisfied with the changes to Balance, press OK to return to the Audio settings screen.
- To turn Loudness on or off, or Stereo widening on or off, scroll down to highlight the option you want to change (Figure 17). Press Change, and it will be switched (Figure 18).
- Press Back to return to the music player screen.
