The Nokia 5310 XpressMusic is geared up for a great music experience, with a range of tune-playing features to maximise your listening pleasure.
As well as dedicated music controls built into the 5310 XpressMusic's casing, there's some excellent music player software, a generous amount of storage on the supplied MicroSD memory card, and good quality earphones in-box.
You can load up the phone with all your favourite music and arrange it exactly how your want it. Just like a standalone music player, you can create and manage your own playlists quickly and easily. Below we show you how it's done...
Note - if you're using the 5310 XpressMusic as part of the Nokia Comes With Music service, you'll find that you can create playlists on your Comes With Music PC software before copying tracks to the phone. However, it's also quick easy - and often convenient - to compile them on the phone itself.
Creating playlists
- From the phone's standby screen, scroll down to highlight Music player (Figure 1). Press Select.
- Scroll down to highlight Playlists (Figure 2). Press Open.
- Highlight Create playlist (Figure 3). Press Select.
- Now give a name to your new playlist by typing in an appropriate title using the phone's numberpad (Figure 4). When finished, press OK.
- A message appears saying that a playlist has been created, and asking if you want to add content to your new playlist (Figure 5). Press Yes.
- You are taken into the Music menu, with the usual selection of categories displayed (Figure 6). You can add individual tracks either by going through the category folders to find it, or you can select groups of tracks by highlighting and selecting an artist, album or even genre or video. You can select as many tracks as you like before saving your playlist, by scrolling back and forwards through the menus as required.
- In the Music menu, scroll to the category you want to choose from. Press the central navigation pad to select (if it's All Songs or Videos it will be Open, for any of the others it will be labelled Expand) (Figure 7).
- At any point as you go through the menus, you can add a track, album, artist or genre by pressing the Add option (the softkey at the bottom left of the display) (Figure 8).
- As you go in to a category, you can scroll up or down to refine your selection (whether it's artist or album name, genre, etc.). Press Open to go further into a particular folder.
- Scroll as necessary until you see what you want to add to your playlist. Press Add and it will be added (note - the softkey option changes to Remove, indicating that the item has now been added to the list) (Figure 9).
- Continue scrolling through the list you're in, highlighting and pressing Add whenever you want to save something to this playlist. Press the the navigation pad left and right options to go backwards or forwards through the menus to get to other albums, artists or additional categories.
- Continue to add tracks to your playlist until you're ready to save the complete playlist. If you've been choosing individual tracks, press Back to get to the category list (Figure 10). Press Done (the softkey under the bottom right of the display).
- A message appears: Content added to playlist: [your playlist name] (Figure 11).
- Your new playlist appears onscreen (Figure 12). To listen to the playlist, press Play.
Changing and reordering playlists
- If you want to reorder the playlist playing order, press Options. Highlight Organise list (Figure 13). Press Select.
- Scroll to highlight a track you want to move. Press Move (Figure 14).
- The track highlighting changes colour onscreen. Use the navigation pad to scroll the track up to where you want it to appear on your playlist (Figure 15). Press OK.

- A message appears asking if you want to Save changes? (Figure 17). Press Yes.
- You now return to your playlist. Press Play to play, or Back to return to the Playlist menu.
In the Playlist menu you can play any playlist by highlighting it and pressing Play. If you want to make changes to a playlist, scroll to highlight the playlist and press Options. The list provides options to open and edit the list (as described above), add tracks to the playlist (as outlined above), and to delete or rename a playlist.
