Browsing the Web with the 5300

With a built in Web browser you can use the Nokia 5300 Xpress Music to access Web sites. There are some points to remember when using this phone for Web browsing

• It supports GPRS so browsing won’t be as fast as it is with a 3G phone
• Its screen is not overly large – it measures 2 inches corner to corner - so bigger and more complex Web sites may not be that satisfying to look at
• Most importantly of all, the phone only supports some Web site types – they need to be using either WML or XHTML. The bad news is that not every site will be accessible through the phone. The good news is that those which are should format well.

Go to a Web site
To open the Web browser tap the middle Selection key in the centre of the navigation button to choose Menu.

Next use the navigation button to move to the icon marked Web and press the middle Selection key to choose this.

Now use the navigation button to scroll down to ‘Go to address’ and tap the middle Selection key to choose this. Type an address. You don’t need to type the ‘www’ part. Use the 1 key to get the dots within the address. Try ‘amazon.co.uk’ for starters. The next time you do this you can use the middle selection key to choose History and see pages you have recently visited.

When the address has been entered fully choose OK by tapping the middle Selection key. The word ‘Loading’ will appear for a short time, then the Web page will appear in your browser.

Note that it looks different from the amazon.co.uk page as seen in a Web browser on your main computer. This is because it is a site that has been formatted specially for the small screen of your mobile phone.

You can use links in the page by using the navigation key to highlight them and the middle Selection key to select them.

When you are finished viewing a site choose Exit with the right select key.
