Nokia Lumia 920 successor to be constructed from aluminium [codenamed Catwalk]
Nokia is said to be already working on the successor to 2012’s Lumia 920, which is currently codenamed ‘Catwalk’
In order to make its next flagship device thinner and lighter, Nokia is reportedly experimenting with aluminium for its next Lumia flagship device, which is currently codenamed Catwalk, according to reports.
The Verge is reporting that Nokia will produce a smartphone running Windows Phone 8 that is constructed from aluminium and it will launch at some point this year.
The Catwalk is said to feature similar hardware specifications as the Lumia 920, according to reports, which means it’s likely to be more of a reboot, one aimed at addressing current gripes about the 920’s weight, than an all out new handset.
The Lumia 920, despite being a very handsome device, is something of a chunky monkey. It weighs a lot, even compared to handsets like the Galaxy Note 2. It's also very bulky – a fact that definitely detracts somewhat from the overall user experience.
The introduction of aluminium should enable Nokia to produce a lighter device without sacrificing the larger dimensions now associated with its high-end Lumia devices.
We can't wait to see what this handset will look like.
