Nokia's Lumia 800 has finally received the update to Windows Phone 7.8 bringing a set of Windows Phone 8 features

The Windows Phone 7.8 update is now officially rolling out to Nokia Lumia 800 handsets.

Oddly enough, the update comes in four parts and it isn’t coming over-the-air either - Lumia 800 owners will need to get Microsoft’s Zune software on a computer and connect their device to download it.

Windows Phone 7.8 is the version which will introduce a number of the new features from Windows Phone 8 to older handsets running Windows Phone 7.

The most obvious changes will be more diverse interface customisation – you’ll now be able to resize Live Tile shortcuts and there’ll be a total of 20 theme colours to choose from.

Earlier leaks have indicated that other features will include Bluetooth sharing, a ringtone creation suite, contact transfer, a customisable lock screen with support for Bing wallpapers, new lock screen backgrounds, enhanced animations, new ringtones, Google search for IE10 and access to Microsoft’s new Xbox Live services such as Xbox Music + Video and Xbox SmartGlass.

While Windows Phone 7.8 should enhance the Lumia 800’s capabilities the Windows Phone 8 handsets will remain superior. Windows Phone 8 has support for multicore processors which means multitasking and app load times are vastly improved over single-core phones such as the Lumia 800.
