We take a look at the best smartphones under £200

The smartphone world can be a confusing place if you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for – talk of pixel density and multitouch input can be daunting at times, to even the most seasoned smartphone user. However, if you’re in the market for a new SIM-free device, knowing your budget is a good place to start.

Here, we’ve put together a list of the best smartphones on the market which cost under £200, showing you that it’s still possible to buy top quality devices on a budget, and (hopefully) helping you to make sure you consider all of your options before spending your hard-earned cash.

Samsung Galaxy Y

£74.48 from Amazon

The Samsung Galaxy Y is a great little smartphone if you’re looking for decent spec at a low cost. The device runs on the Gingerbread iteration of Android, version 2.3.5, and affords users all of the great customisation that Android is synonymous with. The Galaxy Y has a 3-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen, 2-megapixel primary camera which offers geo-tagging, and it all runs on an 830MHz ARMv6 processor, which may not be the speediest chip around, but is quite the workhorse, and the device also sports 290MB RAM. The cheery on the cake is the micro SD slot, which accepts cards up 32GB in capacity, giving you plenty of room for your media.
