Free Nokia Lumia taxis hit London

Nokia has launched a free Lumia taxi service for Social Media Week

Nokia has got well into the spirit of ‘Social Media Week' this week by branding up a bunch of London black cabs with colourful Lumia imagery and unleashing them into the UK capital.

It doesn't end there, however, as these snazzy taxis will ferry you around for the low price of absolutely nothing at all. Yup, Nokia has paid for some taxis to cruise London's streets and all you have to do is hail one to get a free ride.

Appropriately enough for Social Media Week, the company took to Twitter to announce the promotional stunt, with pictures of the distinctive vehicles so commuters know exactly what to look for.

Nokia is one of the main promoters of Social Media Week and it makes sense for it to be so involved, with Windows Phone now being its primary operating system and one that is heavily integrated with social networking including Twitter, Gmail and Facebook.

It's also a savvy move marketing-wise, if anyone isn't familiar with the Lumia brand already we're pretty sure they will be after getting a free lift from a taxi emblazoned with the logo.

We hope for Nokia's sake it's taken the time to clue the cabbies up on its current phone line-up and the capabilities of Windows Phone, in case any curious passengers start asking questions.
