Using Voice Commands on the Motorola RAZR V3i
Chris Leonard
You can make calls and use some phone applications on your Motorola RAZR V3i without having to scroll through menus.
The Motorola V3i has a small amount of pre-set voice commands allowing you to use your phone simply by speaking into it, saving you time by not having to scroll through and click into menus.
Using voice commands you can make calls to contacts in your Phonebook and use certain applications including Camera, Voicemail, Redial and accessing Received Calls.
To use voice commands, press and release the Voice Key (The long silver button on the right-hand side of the screen). By saying certain commands or stored Phonebook names and numbers into the phone, the Motorola V3i will either open that application or make a call.
If the phone does not recognise your voice command it will ask you to repeat what you have said. If it does not recognise the name or number you said when Voice or Digit dialling, it will display a list of options and speak each one in turn, asking if you meant it. Say “Yes” to make the call, or “No” to move onto the next choice.
You can also train the phone to recognise your voice:
- Press Menu (The [–] button) and select Settings (Figure 1).
- Scroll down to Personalise and press Select (Figure 2).
- Then choose Voice Dial Setup and press Select (Figure 3).
- Then select Adapt Digits (Figure 4).
Record Phonebook voice commands
You can only set up voice commands for new Phonebook entries. To do this:
- When creating a new Phonebook entry, scroll down to Voice Name and press the Record key.
- Press and release the Voice Key and say the entry’s name. When prompted, press and release the Voice Key again and repeat the name.
Make calls
The Motorola V3i allows you to use voice commands to make calls to people in your Phonebook. You can either Name Dial by speaking the contact’s name or Digit Dial by speaking out each digit of a phone number. To make a call:
- Press and release the Voice Key and the Motorola V3i will prompt you to speak a command (Figure 5).
- Say either “Name Dial” or “Digit Dial”.
- When prompted, either say the name of the Phonebook entry or speak the digits of the number you want to call (Figure 6).
- If the phone recognises what you have said it will automatically make the call (Figure 7).
Open Applications
You can use voice commands to open certain applications on the Motorola V3i: the camera, access voicemail, or see the dialled calls or received calls lists. To use voice commands:
- Press and release the Voice Key. The Motorola V3i will then prompt you to say a command (Figure 8).
- In a clear voice say one of the following commands: “Camera”, “Voicemail”, “Redail” (Dialled calls list), or “Received Calls”. The phone will then automatically open that application (Figure 9).
