"Aside from the OLED and music player, the rest of the features on the Motorola U9 are fairly basic. There’s a two-megapixel camera, EDGE data speeds for internet browsing, a video recorder, Bluetooth, stereo Bluetooth and a couple of pre-installed games, including Sudoku. The Motorola U9 could easily have been just another clamshell phone with a snazzy finish but, thanks to the OLED and the choice of colours, it’s destined to stand out from the crowd."

“As fashion phones go, the curvy U9 certainly has that bow-chicka-wow-wow factor. But while it's small in size and looking good, don't expect it to pull off sexy smart phone functions, masterful music phone stylings or killer camera phone snaps.”

“The whole process leaves the Moto U9 confused. It's not forward-thinking enough to break away from the now old and boring Razr design, while as a music- or fashion-focused phone it fails to perform. There is just nothing compelling here to recommend.”

“This cute clamshell phone comes in a choice of pink or purple, and has a curvy rounded shape and soft feel. The beautiful mirror finish conceals an invisible external display that springs into life with custom animated screensavers and touch-sensitive music controls. Complete with a 2 megapixel camera, music player, memory card slot and Bluetooth, this is what every girl needs in her handbag!”

“The U9 has seen little improvement in two years, bar and upgraded camera, improved interface and an attractive casing (shame the keyboard inside is so boring). There is a wealth of applications on the handset, including Rough Guides and a wide selection of games. It's th eexterior design that will turn heads, as long as people don't peak inside. Despite the improvements, there are many better equipped handsets on the market.”

“Motorola could sorely do with another hit phone – but the MOTO U9 isn’t the type of mobile that’s going to alter its fortunes any time soon. The U9 may have moved on from the Motorola PEBL in terms of features, but compared to what else is vying for buyers’ attention right now, the phone’s specs are decidedly average, with the camera performance disappointing.”

“Motorola hasn’t added anything really outstanding. Sure, the external display effect is a stylish touch, and the metallic look is eye-catching for fashion-phone shoppers, but you can’t help feeling that a lot is resting on the pull of the design – and we’ve seen much of it before.”
