Nokia has touted the Maemo-powered N900’s gaming capabilities with a video showing the phone running game emulators, including some shots of Super Nintendo games.
The video states that there are already several emulators available for the N900’s operating system, and the icons within the video reveal exactly which ones are there. Our favourites include the Super Nintendo, Gameboy, NES and Gameboy Advance.
However, as Mobile Entertainment points out, Nokia is tiptoeing pretty close to the edge in shouting about this functionality, since the distribution of retro ROMS is often considered a form of piracy. It’s especially bad in this case as Nokia shows off a number of Nintendo games, which the company is still actively selling through its online Virtual Console service.
Since we have a penchant for gaming’s oldies, we hope this functionality doesn’t get cut out of the N900, which should be hitting the high street on December 4.
