id Software's Doom Classic is heading towards the App Store now, pending approval from Apple's bods

Doom, arguably one of the most important games of the 90s, is winging its way towards the App Store after being submitted to Apple’s submissions team.
It’s id Software’s second go at porting one of its classics to iPhone, following on from Wolfenstein 3D Classic. However, it’s a more complex beast, featuring richer 3D environments and bags more atmosphere.
Scientists on Mars have opened a rift between our world and hell, and foul beasties are passing through it. It’s up to you to make sure they don’t get through, with the help of a trusty shotgun and chainsaw.
On the id Software blog, Carmack wrote about how he saw Wolfenstein 3D Classic as a test to see how successful their iPhone ports could be. Doom Classic’s intended to be a step up, with Carmack saying that “making Doom run on a new platform is only a couple days of work. Making it a really good game on a platform that doesn't have a keyboard and mouse or an excess of processing power is an honest development effort.“
We expect to see Doom Classic hit the App Store within the next week or two, but we’ll let you know as soon as it does.
