Recently, we posted about a video that had been released on the net, showing a conspicuously GTA-like iPhone game. As we thought, it turns out that it was actually a video for the upcoming Gangstar: West Coast Hustle from Gameloft.

If you’re disappointed, don’t be. It’s about as close as you’re likely to get to a full 3D Grand Theft Auto game any time soon. For a more in-depth look at the sort of game to expect, check out our review of the mobile version.

Touch Arcade managed to get some screenshots of the iPhone game in action, and it’s looking mighty impressive. Gangstar uses a mixture of accelerometer and touchscreen controls, with an eye towards making them intuitive enough not to notice to transition to the touchscreen too much.

You’ll get to run around on foot as well as putting the pedal to the metal, and your character is ‘gansta’ enough not to think twice before putting a fist, or bullet, into someone’s chest.
