Straying from the original Doom formula a little, the Doom RPG games are actually turn-based, with levels split up into a grid that you move through one block at a time. Although it may sound like the sort of thing that’d spoil the visceral thrills of the original, we found that Doom RPG managed to maintain the appeal of the original with aplomb.
Take a look at our Wolfenstein RPG review to see exactly what we mean, since it’s a very similar title.
Russian site MTOG managed to grab a few screenshots of a low-resolution version of the game, and it’s looking quite similar to its WW2-infused cousin. Although the enemies would appear to be 2D sprites, the world is drawn in 3D, even though you don’t quite to move about it in a completely free manner.
We don’t have any details on exactly when Doom II RPG will be hitting carrier decks, but we’ll be sure to let you know when it does.
