Real Racing is one of the iPhone’s best-looking games, but a video released by developer Firemint shows that the iPhone 3G S would be capable of keeping track of 40 AI racers at once.
The current version of the game sees you racing against just five other cars, demonstrating quite how much of a performance upgrade the 3G S offers. On the Firemint blog, more impressions were published on the power of the new iPhone:
“Since the game uses a high fidelity physics engine, adding cars is a good test for pushing the hardware. We started our tech demo with 8 cars on the track, then 10, 12, 16 and 20, and the 3GS still didn't break a sweat. We finally stopped when we got to 40 cars on the track at the same time, still with no perceptible drop in frame rate. We think the results are mind blowing.”
We still think it’ll be a while before such high profile games as Real Racing actually make use of the 3G S’s specs on a product that actually makes it onto the App Store, but these early indications are exciting. Original iPhone and 3G users probably aren’t feeling quite so great right now though.
