Space Ace lands on the iPhone

Dragon's Lair LLC has released Space Ace for the iPhone. The classic FMV adventure is based around touchscreen timed events

Don Bluth’s classic, if often reviled, interactive movie arcade game Space Ace has been released on the App Store.
Originally released in 1984, Space Ace consists of timed events set on top of cartoony full motion video. The game was originally running off laser disc technology but, as FMV iPhone game Hysteria Project proved, games full of video are no barrier to the iPhone’s powers.
You control the timed events using arrow buttons on the overlaid on top of the video. Although it comes with three difficulty levels, Space Ace was never renowned for its particularly impressive gameplay- and we don’t think anything’s changed with this iPhone port. If you’re after a spot of 80s gaming nostalgia, Space Ace could be right up your street. However, we doubt whether it’ll stand up too well by its own gaming merits alone.
Thanks to all the video involved, it’s a pretty weighty download at 243MB, which will take a while to download even on a broadband WiFi connection. Space Ace currently sells for £2.99.
