Namco has released Dig Dug REMIX on the App Store, a spiced-up version of the 1982 arcade game

Continuing its dedication to bringing re-vamped versions of their arcade classics to the iPhone, Namco has released Dig Dug REMIX on the App Store. It’s currently priced at £3.49.

If you’re not familiar with it, Dig Dug is a game where you dig underground in order to create a series of tunnels using which you can vanquish the level’s selection of enemies- by dropping rocks on them. More well-meaning in practice than it sounds, Dig Dug offers a classic formula that still holds up pretty well today, even thought the original was released way back in 1982.

Dig Dug REMIX offers two versions of the game. The first is the classic retro experience, complete with blippy sound effects and graphics that a 15-year-old home console would blush at. There’s no denying they hold a certain charm though. The remixed version features far more up-to-date visuals, for those who don’t fancy a nostalgia fest. The gameplay remains largely the same in both modes.

Dig Dug REMIX is available now the App Store, and we’ll keep you informed if a lite version of the game turns up.
