Gameloft to release Sonic Unleashed on mobile

Taking on the baton from Glu, Gameloft has signed a deal with Sega to produce Sonic Unleashed

Gameloft has partnered up with Sega and is currently working on Sonic Unleashed for mobile as part of the deal.

Michel Guillemot, president of Gameloft, voiced his hopes that this would be the start of a ‘long term partnership’ between the two companies, and that they planned to provide an ‘extraordinary mobile experience’ for gamers.

The console game of Sonic Unleashed was critical lambasted on some corners, but then so have almost all recent sonic console games. Thankfully, the outlook is quite different on mobile. The Crash and Dash games of the past year or so have all offered a fun experience that’s true to Sonic’s roots. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, mobile naysayers!

Glu mobile has been at the helm of mobile Sonic games up until now and, if anything, Gameloft’s taking over of the franchise may even see a boost in quality. Sonic Unleashed for mobiles is due out in June 2009.
