King of casual games Popcap has released Bookworm on the App Store, only the second of their catalogue to make it onto the iPhone so far. It keeps the visual style of the PC original, adopting a vertical screen orientation that was used in the mobile version rather than going for the landscape perspective of the original.
It's a simple but highly addictive game where you just have to drag your finger over a grid of letters, trying to make words out of them. There have been several games of this type already on iPhone, including the acclaimed Wordsworth but Bookworm eclipses the rest, at least from a brand name perspective.
The game wears its word credentials on its sleeve too, claiming to use the Oxford English Dictionary as the source for its wordlist. Bookworm has never been a game shy to add fun features to the underlying word search blueprint, so we're considering this as a potential candidate for one of the top word games one the App Store.
