The LG Cookie's touchscreen user interface gives you control of the phone's functions at the swipe of a finger or the tap of a digit.
It's easy to operate, but to make control easier, LG has included a selection of onscreen widgets - mini versions of phone applications and features - that you can add to customise your standby screen.
These widgets cover a range of features: calendar, clock and alarms, music player, FM radio, memos, image gallery, and world clock. By placing them on your standby screen, you can view information or content, get shortcuts to features, or operate the application without having to navigate the phone's menu system.
Widgets are a handy feature to have on a touchscreen mobile, adding to the flexibility of a finger operated interface. Here, we show you how to use them...
Setting up widgets
- From standby, press the black arrowed tab on the lower right hand side of the display (Figure 1). The widgets panel appears.
- In the widgets panel there are a selection of icons representing various features and applications you can place as widgets on the main part of the display (Figure 2).
- To move a widget icon onto the main part of the display, tap the appropriate widget icon in the panel. It will then appear automatically on the main portion of the display (Figure 3).
- Alternatively, to place the widget exactly where you want it onscreen, using your finger or stylus, press the widget icon in the panel and, keeping your finger on the screen, drag it to the position you want. Release your finger or stylus to leave the widget in place (Figure 4).
- You can place as many widgets as you like onscreen (Figure 5). If you've dragged them onscreen but want to order them more neatly for easy viewing, simply shake the phone and they will be auto aligned in a grid-like pattern (Figure 6).
- Once you have finished adding the widgets you want, press the arrowed tab button. The panel closes and the selected widgets remain onscreen (Figure 7).
- When the widgets panel is closed, you can still move your widgets around onscreen by dragging and dropping them using a fingertip or stylus (Figure 8).
- To view or use an onscreen widget, press it on the display. One press will select it, enlarging it onscreen (Figure 9), and to get more functionality options, press it again (Figure 10). You may be taken into a further conventional menu (for example, by pressing the Memo option) (Figure 11), have control of certain features (music player, FM radio) (Figure 12), or be able to view content (the image gallery option) (Figure 13).
To close an open widget application, tap the screen around the widget once to minimise it, then press either the display again or another widget.
- If you decide you no longer want a widget onscreen, you can drag it back offscreen in to the widgets panel. You first need to open the widgets panel as before by pressing the arrowed tab on the side of the screen (Figure 14).
- When the panel appears, simply move the unwanted widget back into the panel by pressing and dragging with your finger or stylus, and releasing when it's back in the panel (Figure 15).
- Close the widgets panel by pressing the arrowed tab again.
