Backing up your KG800

Save your vital information

Make sure you never lose any important information from your LG KG800 by backing up your phone to your PC

It is very important to keep a backup of your phone contacts on your PC, in case the phone is ever lost, stolen or breaks.

LG provides a data suite CD with the phone, or you can download it from http://uk.lgmobile.com. This provides some additional ringtones, lets you transfer ringtones and Java applications from the PC, synchronise your contacts with Outlook or Outlook Express and use your mobile as a modem to let your laptop access the net wirelessly. Unfortunately this suite is for Windows based PCs only, although any operating system that is capable of using USB flash drives (such as Linux or Mac) can copy MP3, photo and video files to and from the phone.

Install the software onto your PC in the usual way by running setup.exe on the CD, ensuring that you have all of the options selected (including the modem driver – this is used for all of the connections to your phone, not just dialling up to the internet).

Once the software is installed, before starting it or connecting the phone you need to turn on the phone modem. This is done by going to the Settings menu (Figure 1), connectivity (Figure 2), modem (Figure 3)(shortcut menu 9, 5, 2) and answering Yes (Figure 4)to the activation question. Go back to the phone standy screen (leaving the slider open), and you can then connect it to the PC.

LG PC Sync is used to sync to the contacts information with the PC, Contents Bank is used to copy ringtones and music across. Both of these are straightforward PC applications, but if you don’t get a connection to the phone check that the correct connection method is selected. To do this, in the PC application go to the tool menu, option, setting and ensure that LG USB Cable is selected for the Port.
