Huawei MediaPad 7 Lite vs iPad 3
Apple’s all powerful iPad 3 takes on Huawei’s upcoming MediaPad 7 Lite
Apple’s iPad has pretty much had the tablet scene sewn up tight since its launch, and with the recent release of the company’s 3rd gen tablet reinforcing the device’s hold on the market it’s now harder than ever for a rival device to gain a foothold – but that isn’t stopping Apple’s competitors trying.
One company which may have what it takes to rival the iPad’s success is Chinese OEM Huawei, as the manufacturer has shown on more than one occasion that it’s able to roll out quality hardware at rock bottom prices.
In order to see what the future holds for Apple’s mighty slate we’ve decided to place it up against Huawei’s upcoming MediaPad 7 Lite to see which device wins in a game of hardware top trumps.
Power
Huawei’s MediaPad 7 Lite is, as its name suggests, a diluted device aimed at giving users a balanced tablet without pushing the limits in terms of hardware. Consequently the device is set to be driven by a single-core 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A8 chip. The device will also feature 1GB RAM, support for micro SD cards and 8 GB of on-board storage space.
The newest iPad, however, features a dual-core Cortex-A9 CPU clocked to 1GHz, a PowerVR SGX543MP4 quad-core GPU and also boasts 1GB RAM, plus either 16, 32 or 64GB of storage – though it doesn’t support any sort of removable memory.
Winner – iPad 3
Screen
Apple’s iPad has become synonymous with quality visuals owing to Apple’s Retina Display technology.
The iPad 3’s screen is imbued with such tech, giving the 9.7-inch LED-backlit IPS TFT screen a peerless pixel density of 264PPI, making it great for surfing the Web and enjoying HD movies and games.
The MediaPad 7 Lite packs a 7-inch IPS LCD display which operates at a resolution of 800 x 1280 (compared to the iPad 3’s 1536 x 2048) and features a pixel density of 216PPI, which is by no means shoddy.
Winner – iPad 3
Camera
Huawei’s MediaPad 7 Lite comes equipped with a primary 3.2-megapixel camera and 0.3-megapixel secondary, which makes the device head and shoulders above the likes of Google’s Nexus 7, which only offers up a front facing VGA.
Unfortunately the MediaPad 7 Lite isn’t up against Google’s little tablet in this contest though. It’s up against the iPad 3, which packs a primary 5-megapixel snapper with autofocus, geo-tagging, face detection, 1080P video capture and video stabilisation and a secondary VGA camera for video calling and FaceTime.
