Samsung Galaxy S4 (Rumours) vs HTC Deluxe (Rumours)

We take a look at two forthcoming flagships to see if the Samsung Galaxy S4 can be bested by the HTC Deluxe

We compare the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC Deluxe rumours to see which one you should be more excited about becoming a reality.

Form

A few images have leaked so far of the HTC Deluxe and we have to say it’s looking quite sharp.

Admittedly, the pictures appear to be carefully composed marketing shots with flattering lighting and other tweaks, but even so, the impression we get is of something with a premium finish.

It looks as though HTC will bring in similar styling and materials to the company’s slickly styled One X models. As with Samsung’s equally large Galaxy Note smartphones, the proportions mean it’s naturally more angular than HTC’s other devices.

It’s difficult to tell whether or not the chassis is a unibody, but either way it appears to be a bit more traditional than the One range in that it wraps around the display rather than having it seated almost on top.

Overall there’s something quite sporty about the Deluxe’s appearance with its red trim and sweeping bodywork. There’s a bit of a luxury car vibe which is always a good thing.

Although there’s been a decent amount of leaked information for the Samsung Galaxy S4 there’s been nothing in the way of pictures or build details.

Samsung is usually fairly on point with its visual design, creating flagship handsets which not only look good at time of release but also remain contemporary and stylish for some time.

However, what’s not been so good to date is the company’s choice of materials as Galaxy handsets are frequently made from cheap-feeling plastics. We’d hope this will change with the next flagship and perhaps Samsung will start introducing polycarbonates or lightweight metals.

There’s certainly been enough criticism on the subject for the company to have paid attention, but likewise its plasticky devices have sold well enough regardless, so it may see no reason to make the switch.

Winner – HTC Deluxe

Display

HTC’s Deluxe will have a 5-inch Super LCD3 display with a 1920x1080 pixel resolution at 440 pixels-per-inch (ppi).

This is serious next-gen display tech and should provide incredible clarity and colour on a large-scale expanse of glass – perfect for watching films, gaming or browsing the web. It’ll also use reinforced Gorilla Glass 2.

Rumours indicate the Galaxy S4 might be the first handset to make use of Samsung’s new flexible OLED display technology, making it lighter and more durable than current offerings.

It’s also been implied that the Galaxy S4 will be larger than its predecessors and equal the HTC Deluxe in its size, resolution and pixel density.

There’s no reason to believe it won’t deliver equally good picture quality, although there are differences between LCD and OLED when you’re looking at the highest-end tech of each type it’s more-or-less on a par.

Winner – Draw

Storage

The HTC Deluxe will have 16GB of storage onboard, at present it isn’t known if it’ll have MicroSD capability but we suspect not.

Currently the Galaxy S4 is said to have 16GB of storage but we expect it’ll also have 32GB and 64GB variants going by previous models.

On the same line of thought, previous Samsung flagships have had MicroSDXC capability for up to 64GB so we reckon that’ll be the case here too.
