We compare HTC's flagship One X to Huawei's Ascend D Quad XL

We take a look at how HTC's quad core One X can take on Huawei's equivalent, the Ascend D Quad XL.

Form
Huawei Ascend D Quad XL - 129x64x10.9mm, 150g
HTC One X - 134.4x69.9x8.9mm, 130g

HTC's design for the One X is a step in the right direction for the company, we don't think it looks quite as sharp as its sleeker stable-mate, the One S, but it takes enough stylistic features to make it fairly appealing.

We never thought we'd say this but the white version actually looks better. This is because the bodywork has an interesting shape to it: it's sort of chiselled but then rounded off too.

Also, from the front, the main body shell just peeks out around the edge of a shiny contrasting black slab which houses the screen. The screen itself also has a contoured appearance.

The Huawei D Quad XL is virtually identical on the outside to the company's flagship models, the regular D Quad.

Huawei's D Quad XL is like a slimmer and more rounded Samsung Galaxy S2. It's the heavier and thicker of the two handsets at 150g and 10.9mm respectively.

While it's still a nice looking phone, Huawei has perhaps been a bit overzealous when smoothing off all the corners and edges - the style is altogether a bit too ‘bubbly' for our taste.

The bodywork also looks quite smooth and shiny and pictures of the device show it with an almost oily sheen to it which doesn't look too good in our view.

We have to side with HTC here for producing a handset with a much more pleasing aesthetic.

Storage
The D Quad XL has 8GB of internal storage plus 1GB of RAM for helping the processor to keep things running smoothly. There's also a micro SD slot allowing you to expand storage by up to a further 32GB.

HTC has sadly decided to omit the card slot with its One X, but onboard you've got 32GB and 1GB of RAM.

Ultimately, you can get more overall space on the D Quad XL thanks to the inclusion of the card slot, which also makes the phone more versatile.

Display
The Huawei D Quad XL has the smaller screen of the two handsets here, though not by much. It ‘s a 4.5-inch IPS + capacitive LCD with multi-touch support and sports a resolution of 1280x720 pixels.

This gives a pixel density which is almost as good as Apples' iPhone Retina technology at 326 pixels-per-inch (ppi).

HTC's One X has a 4.7-inch Super IPS LCD2 capacitive multi-touch display reinforced with Corning's Gorilla Glass. The resolution is the same 1280x720 pixels as the D Quad XL's display, on the One X's larger screen this gives a slightly lower pixel density of 312ppi.

While the One X's screen is still very impressive (it'll look better than pretty much any non-iPhone handset released last year), Huawei's D Quad XL should offer a noticeably sharper picture quality.
