We show you how to set up email on the HTC HD7

The HTC HD7 comes with all kinds of email support, from GMail to Microsoft Outlook.

It's easy to set up and the layout of the application is beautiful.

Here's how it's done:


Windows Live email

  1. From the Start screen, flick left to the applications list and tap on the Settings icon. Select Email & accounts.
  2. Select Add an account > Windows Live.
  3. If you haven't signed in with a Windows Live ID yet during set up, the Before you sign in screen appears. Select Next.
  4. Tap the Windows Live ID box and then type your Windows Live ID.
  5. Select the Password box and then type your Windows Live password.
  6. Select Sign in. Your Windows Live email, contacts, calendar, photos and feeds will be synchronized to your phone.

Gmail

  1. From the Start screen, flick left to the applications list, select the settings icon and then press Email & accounts.
  2. Tap Add an account > Google.
  3. Select the Email address box and then type your Google account user name.
  4. Select the Password box and then type your Google account password.
  5. Select Sign in. Your Google Mail email and contacts in your Google account will be synchronized to your phone.

Yahoo! Mail

  1. From the Start screen, flick left to the applications list and select the settings icon. Select Email & accounts.
  2. Select Add an account > Yahoo! Mail.
  3. Select the Email address box and then type your Yahoo! ID.
  4. Select the Password box and then type your Yahoo! password.
  5. Select Sign in. Your Yahoo! Mail email will be synchronized to your phone.

Exchange email
Before you get started on setting up your Exchange email, you will need to know your Exchange settings. To find these on your PC using Outlook 2010, select file, the account settings.

Select your Microsoft Exchange email account name and then click Change. Select More Settings on the Server Settings page.

Click the Connection tab, click Exchange Proxy Settings and then note the server address in the 'Use this URL to connect to my proxy server for Exchange' box.

To set up your Exchange email, follow these instructions:

  1. From the Start screen, flick left to the applications list, select the settings icon and then press Email & accounts.
  2. Press Add an account > Outlook.
  3. Select the Email address box and then type your email address for your Exchange Server email account.
  4. Select the Password box and then type your Exchange password.
  5. Select Sign in.
  6. If the account settings are found, wait for your Exchange Server email, calendar and contacts to be synchronized to your phone. You've finished setting up your account.
  7. If your account settings can't be found, you'll have to enter the details manually. Select Advanced and verify that the information you have entered is correct. Select the server box and enter a new address. This address is the same as the one you found using your PC (above). If the correct settings are found, your email, contacts and calendars will be synchronized.
  8. Press Show all settings and then verify that the Server requires encrypted (SSL) connection setting is correct.
  9. If the New password needed message appears after a few moments, press Set, press the New password box and enter a password that's at least four digits long. Press the Confirm password box and type the same password and then press Done. This is the password you will enter on the screen lock to unlock your phone. Whether or not you need to enter a password for your phone depends on the security requirements that are set on the Exchange Server for your account.

Any other email account
If you want to add a different email account other than those listed here, follow these instructions:

  1. From the Start screen, flick left to the applications list, press the settings icon and then press Email & accounts.
  2. Select Add an account > Other account. Select the Email address box and then type your email address. Select the Password box and then type your password. Sign in.
  3. If the settings are found, your email, calendars and contacts will begin to synchronize.
  4. If the settings aren't found, make sure both the user name and password are correct and then press Try again. If the settings still aren't found, press Advanced and then enter the settings manually.
  5. In Advanced Setup, select Internet email account.
  6. Here you will need to enter these details:
    1. Account name (a descriptive name for the account, such as 'personal' or 'work')
    2. Your name
    3. Incoming email server (You can get this from your email provider - it will normally start with IMAP. or POP.)
    4. Account type (Select POP3 or IMAP4, depending on the type of account)
    5. Username
    6. Password
    7. Outgoing (SMTP) email server (You can get this from your email provider. It will normally start with SMTP.)
    8. Out going server requires authentication
    9. Use the same username and password for sending email
  7. Select Advanced Settings and verify the require SSL for incoming and require SSL for outgoing settings are correct
  8. Select how often you want to receive email and select a download option.
  9. Select Sign in.
