Speaking at his company’s end of year banquet, HTC CEO Peter Chou gave an impromptu demo of the M7 smartphone ahead of its February 19 launch

Video footage of Peter Chou demoing a handset on stage at the company's end of year banquet, one he refers to as the M7, has confirmed what many already suspected: February 19 will see HTC launch the M7.

The handset in the video looks to have a 4.7-inch display, matching up nicely with what’s already been mentioned in our previous coverage of the device. Chou didn’t mention anything else about the spec, but did seem to enjoy testing the camera and shouting ‘M7!’ a lot.

‘This event today is a great opportunity for testing. I was still testing it just now [sic],’ said Chou on stage, as reported by Engadget via cnYES [translated], and then he briefly pulled out both silver and black editions of the yet-to-be released smartphone,’ according to 9to5Google.

So what does this tell us about the HTC’s upcoming event on February 19? A few things: it’s for a phone, it’ll be called the HTC M7, and it will come in two versions: silver and black. No other specs or hardware are revealed, but you do see Peter Chou doing a great impression of Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer.

Know Your Mobile will be reporting live from HTC’s London event on February 19, where we fully expect to see the HTC M7 launched. The device is expected to feature a FHD 1080p display, Qualcomm’s quad-core S4 Snapdragon Pro processor, 2GB of RAM, and Android 4.2, making it one of the company’s biggest launches to date.

The HTC M7 is expected to launch on February 19, five days ahead of Mobile World Congress 2013. The reason behind the early launch is simple, according to some: HTC does not want to share the limelight with Samsung, LG, and Asus at MWC 2013.
