Huawei takes the fight to HTC’s M7 with the Ascend P2
Huawei has a handset up its sleeve that’s said to best HTC’s upcoming M7. It’s called the Ascend P2 and it’ll be rocking a 4.5-inch 1080p display once launched
The Huawei Ascend P2, tipped to launch at MWC 2013, will feature a 4.5-inch 1080p display that’s designed to feature a higher pixel density than the upcoming HTC M7, according to reports.
HTC set the bar high with its DROID DNA/Butterfly handset in Asia and the US and is set to do the same in Europe on February 19 with the launch of the M7, which is expected to feature a pixel density of 468ppi.
That’s basically an insane level of detail for a smartphone display, especially when you bear in mind Apple’s iPhone 5 has a pixel density of 326ppi.
HTC’s M7 display is suspected to be a 4.7-inch 1080p setup. But Huawei’s Ascend P2, which is said to be packing a smaller 4.5-inch display, should have a slightly higher pixel density – potentially as high as 489, according to our calculations.
It’s worth pointing out, however, that at this higher a resolution picking out differences in quality between the M7 and the Ascend P2, despite the latter’s potentially higher pixel density, will be impossible – the human eye, from a normal viewing distance, simply cannot detect pixels at that level.
Other suspected specs for the Ascend P2 are as follows:
- Huawei’s own quad-core 1.8GHz processor
- 2GB of RAM
- 13-megapixel camera
- 3000mAh battery
- Android 4.2
Lets just hope this device doesn’t go the same way as Huawei’s Ascend D –Quad, which was launched at MWC 2012, lauded as the fastest handset on the planet, and then never launched here in the UK.
