Google Maps with turn-by-turn navigation in testing for iOS
Google Maps, complete with turn-by-turn navigation, is now in testing and is definitely coming to iOS, claims the Wall Street Journal
Google Maps is said to now be in testing and will be coming to iOS, complete with turn-by-turn navigation.
Citing an unnamed source, the Wall Street Journal says Google is distributing a test version of the fabled app to folks outside the firm, making good on their earlier commitment to bring Google Maps to iOS, reports Engadget.
Apple Maps debuted inside iOS 6, bringing turn-by-turn navigation to the iPhone and iPad for the first time. Initial reviews of the new mapping application were dire, however, forcing Apple, eventually, to issue an official apology.
We’ve even had readers email in to tell that they’re not updating to iOS 6 until an official Google Maps application is released on Apple’s App Store.
Google has not yet confirmed when it’ll be releasing Google Maps for iOS, and the WSJ’s source did not disclose anything regarding the search giant’s launch schedule.
Until we do hear something official from either Apple or Google, we'd advise users to simply persist with iOS 6 Maps for the time being and those of you holding fire on iOS 5 to stay put.
Hopefully you won’t have too long to wait now.
