EA won’t have games ready for Windows Phone 8 or BlackBerry 10 launches
EA doesn't have any launch titles prepared for Windows Phone 8 or BlackBerry 10, company reps have revealed
EA isn’t preparing any mobile games to be ready for the launch of either Windows Phone 8 or BlackBerry 10, Know Your Mobile has learnt.
We spoke to EA Mobile’s UK PR manager, Tom Goldberger, to find out if anything was being readied for the launch of either Microsoft or RIM’s new mobile operating systems.
When asked if Microsoft or RIM had approached EA’s Mobile arm to help stock their app stores ahead of their platform launches, Goldberger indicated that there was nothing he was aware of.
He added that broader deals with the two platform creators might be underway which he isn’t involved with.
However, he specifically stated that none of the titles on show at EA’s event in London, including FIFA 13, Need for Speed Most Wanted and Real Racing 3, were being developed with Windows Phone 8 or BlackBerry 10 in mind.
We asked if EA was taking a ‘wait and see’ approach and Goldberger indicated that this is, in fact, the case, adding that going forward titles may yet be developed specifically for the two platforms.
Developers of the various titles showcased at the event also said there were no plans for Microsof’s or RIM’s mobile platforms currently, but that they would consider making games for them after launch.
Both platforms are going to be relying heavily on having a compelling app ecosystem when they launch in order to draw attention away from Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android, which hold the majority of market share in part thanks to their 600,000+ strong app catalogues.
Previous reports indicated EA would be developing content for Windows Phone 8, but it's interesting that this apparent arrangement doesn't seem to include the launch titles the platform so desperately needs.
Having the weight of EA behind its launch would have been a helpful situation for Microsoft.
