Virtual Table Tennis 3D review [Android]
Is this Android sports title the kind of the paddles, or does it (ping) pong?
A few years ago, Rockstar Games (the publisher famous for the Grand Theft Auto series) released one of the most underrated sports titles in the history of video games. Rockstar Table Tennis arrived on the Xbox 360 with little publicity, but managed to turn what is a pretty niche sport into a riveting interactive experience.
While it would be a little too much to expect Virtual Table Tennis 3D to achieve the same degree of immersion on a humble mobile phone, it comes pretty damn close.
The game has three difficulty levels and 10 different opponents (each identified by a nationality). Your aim is to beat them all, with each one being more skillful and adept than the last.
You use the touchscreen to swing your virtual table tennis bat. Controlling the action is actually quite straightforward; as long as your bat is near the ball when it approaches you, you’ll return it.
To give your return a little more gusto, you can slide your finger forward slightly at the moment of contact. You can also apply direction by sliding your finger left or right as you hit the ball.
