Popular television motoring show Top Gear will be coming to iPad and mobile in the form of a game

According to MCV, Top Gear, the BBC television show presented by James May, Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson, is to be made into a game, and will see the light of day on iPad and mobile as early as the end of the year.

The show that once focused more on purchasing a second hand car than mad challenges in high-performance cars will be getting its own American version, which will be interesting to say the least.

“I am trying to build a team that really understands how to get to the meat of the matter when it comes to brands,” BBC Worldwide’s EVP of Digital Entertainment, Robert Nashak, told MCV.

“Top Gear is a priority for us,” added Nashak. “We are coming out with an American format of Top Gear. If that takes off, and I hope it does, then I believe that Top Gear will become a powerhouse global brand.”

Console, PC, digital and mobile platforms will be getting the Clarkson and co’ treatment, as well as the iPad and, presumably, the iPod Touch and iPhone.

Love it or hate it, Top Gear is a national treasure, so we hope the games are more than just soulless ways to cash in on a well-known television show.

Other popular TV programmes on the list for the videogame treatment include Torchwood, The Night Garden, Lonely Planet and Doctor Who.
