Apple has announced that the 3-billionth application has been downloaded from the App Store

Apple has chosen the launch day of Google's very own smartphone to announce that the Apple App Store has completed its three billionth download.
It was only last October that the super-manufacturer reached the two billion download mark. That means the last three months have seen a download rate of over 10 million apps per day.
"Three billion applications downloaded in less than 18 months - this is like nothing we’ve ever seen before," said CEO Steve Jobs.
"The revolutionary App Store offers iPhone and iPod touch users an experience unlike anything else available on other mobile devices, and we see no signs of the competition catching up anytime soon."
The App Store operates across 77 countries and there are currently over 100,000 apps on its virtual shelves - including our own Know Your Mobile Mobile Tips app.
With analysts predicting that Google's Android Market will have 150,000 apps available by the end of 2010, Apple meeting the 3-billion download mark is only just the beginning of the apps race.
