Nokia has boosted its mobile lineup two stylish 3G handsets - the 6600 fold and 6600 slide - and the compact, eye-catching 3600 slide

Nokia is expanding its mobile lineup with three new handsets, the 3G-enabled 6600 fold and 6600 slide, and the compact 3600 slide.

With the 6600-series handsets Nokia has again used similar model names for phones with distinctive looks and slightly different specs, as it did with the 6500 slide and 6500 classic models.

6600 fold
The 6600 fold is a glossy clamshell design featuring a 'hidden' external display that comes to life when tapped twice or when activated by an incoming call. The double-tap feature can also be used to send alarms to snooze or to reject calls.

The 6600 fold is based on Nokia's Series 40 user interface, and has a main 2-megapixel camera for snapping, and a secondary camera for 3G video calling inside the shell, above a large 2.13-inch OLED 16-million colour QVGA display. It can record video at VGA quality at 15 frames per second or QVGA at 30 fps, and is geared up for video and music downloads and streaming. As usual with recent Nokia phones, you can uplink images direct to Flickr accounts from the handset.

A music player and FM radio are included, and the phone comes with 15MB of user memory inside plus MicroSD card support (a 512MB card is included in-box). A full Nokia web browser is available, plus an Opera Mini 4 browser and Yahoo! Go software and Nokia WidSets widgets.

Nokia Maps, the navigation and location-based services application is onboard too; while there's no GPS receiver inside, a standalone Bluetooth GPS receiver accessory could be added to boost mapping accuracy. Stereo Bluetooth is part of the spec too, as is MicroUSB connectivity.

6600 slide
The 6600 slide is a 14mm-slim sliderphone, constructed with steel covers and aluminium control keys, boasting a 2.2-inch 16.7-million colour QVGA display. Another 3G handset, this model has a 3.2-megapixel primary camera, plus a secondary video calling module above the display.

It has similar multimedia functionality and connectivity to the 6600 fold, with a music player, FM radio, video streaming and downloading capability and multiple options for 3G browsing and access to web-based services. Nokia Maps is included here too. The tap control technology used on the 6600 fold is also included.

The 6600 slide has 20MB of user memory loaded up and comes with a 512MB MicroSD card as standard.

Both 6600-series handsets are expected to go on sale in the third quarter of this year, with the 6600 fold costing around €275 SIM-free and the 6600 slide €250.

3600 slide
Completing the trio, the 3600 slide is a non-3G sliderphone that comes with a 3.2-megapixel camea with autofocus and flash. As well as a compact design, Nokia is aiming at the style-conscious mobile buyer, using ceramic paint and metal materials combined with high-gloss surfaces finished in gradated colour schemes.

The feature lists inside includes typical Nokia Series 40 phone functionality. It has a multi-format music player, VGA-quality video capture and an FM radio. A full Nokia web browser and Opera Mini browser, plus a selection of web-based apps and Nokia Maps are included too.

The 3600 slide has a 2-inch QVGA display, and 30MB of internal user memory is supplemented by MicroSD card expansion (a 512MB card is included in-pack, with Nokia Maps data pre-installed).

The 3600 slide is also scheduled for a third quarter debut, and will be priced at around €175 SIM-free.
