Sony Ericsson unveils Z780 and G502 high-speed 3G phones
The G502 is Sony Ericsson's most affordable 3G HSDPA-enabled handset so far
Sony Ericsson has boosted its 3G HSDPA enabled handset line-up with the super-slim, AGPS-equipped Z780 clamshell and the low-cost G502
Sony Ericsson is aming to bring high-speed 3G to the mass market with the launch of its lowest cost HSDPA-enabled mobile yet, the G502, and has added a slimline HSDPA clamshell, the Z780, to its range for markets outside of Europe.
The Z780 is similar to the Z770i announced by Sony Ericsson earlier this year but adds built in A-GPS (Asssited Global Positioning System) satellite location technology. It's a tri-band 3G HSDPA handset, featuring a full range of high-speed downloading, streaming and cvideo call options. It comes loaded with Google Maps for Mobile software too offering location based services, and is equipped with a music player and 2-megapixel camera.
The G502, which also comes with Google Maps, is Sony Ericsson's most affordable HSDPA enabled handset yet. The low-cost G502 has a full web browser a set of high-speed 3G features, including fast internet access, streaming and downloading of content, but no face-to-face video calling.
The G502 uses network triangulation estimates for Google Map location finding, though it can be used with an optional GPS Enabler HGE-100 accessory for more accurate location finding.
The G502 has an onboard music player, FM radio, 2-megapixel camera with picture blogging links, and features Bluetooth and USB connectivity. It supports Memory Stick Micro Card expansion as well as having 32MB of onboard memory.
Measuring 109(h) x 46(w) x 13.5(d) mm and weighing 83.5g, the phone sports a 2-inch 262K-colours QVGA (240x320 pixels display) and will come in a choice of 'champagne black' or 'brilliant hazel' colour schemes. Both phones will be available in the second quarter of this year
