Nokia has extended its portfolio of GPS-enabled devices with the launch of the 6210 Navigator - an update of last year's 6110 Navigator - and the 6220, a 5-megapixel cameraphone.
The 6210 Navigator is Nokia's first device to feature an integrated compass to help pedestrian navigation, and it is supplied with the latest Nokia Maps 2.0 software pre-loaded. It comes with a 1GB memory card loaded with local country maps, including turn-by-turn by voice and visual map guidance.
The 6210 Navigator sliderphone has an accelerometer built in to measure changes of direction and orientation, with the compass making it easier for users to navigate on foot. Naturally, in-car sat nav software is also included.
The 6210 Navigator is a Symbian S60 smartphone, and has 3G HSDPA connectivity onboard, supportng high-speed audio and video downloading and streaming and video calling. The phone has a 3.2-megapixel camera and the usual extensive Nokia S60 smartphone rundown of features, including a multi-format music and video player, FM radio, full web browser, personal information management applications, and PC synchronisation support.
Nokia has also built A-GPS technology into the 6220 classic, a new 5-megapixel cameraphone with Carl Zeiss optics and Xenon flash. This in another 3G HSDPA equipped Symbian S60 smartphone, featuring Nokia Maps 2.0. Along with satellite navigation and location finding, the A-GPS technology enables images to be 'geotagged' automatically with exact location metadata, for storing or sharing with others.
The 6220 classic comes with Nokia Maps software preloaded on a supplied 512MB MicroSD card. It has a similar set of S60 applications to the 6210 Navigator - including web browser, music player, FM radio and multimedia player - although with its enhanced camera offering higher quality imaging and video recording. A dedicated one-click button provides a quick link to upload content captured on the device.
The 6210 Navigator and 6220 classic are due for release in the third quarter of 2008. The 6210 Navigator will be priced at around €300 (£210) for the handset without subsidies or taxes, with the 6220 classic selling for around €325 (£230).
