Sony Ericsson has launched its first Windows Mobile-powered smartphone as part of new XPERIA range of converged devices.
The XPERIA X1i is a touchscreen device that also has a Qwerty keyboard which slides out in an arc motion from under the large 3-inch VGA display. The XPERIA X1i is designed to be a slick-looking multimedia entertainment and web applications platform, with Sony Ericsson XPERIA panels on the home screen offering quick access to key features and applications.
These customisable panels are laid over the regular Windows Mobile operating system, which is configured with all the regular applications you'd expect from a Windows Mobile OS device - including Outlook Mobile, Office Mobile (including Word, excel and PowerPoint), Internet Explorer Mobile, Windows Media Player Mobile, Windows Mobile Live, and Exchange ActiveSync.
The XPERIA X1 comes with A-GPS built in, plus a 3.2-megapixel camera. It's a 3G HSDPA device, which also has Wi-Fi onboard. The device meaures 110(h) x 53(w) x 16.7(d) mm and weighs in at 145g.It comes with up to 400MB of onboard memory plus MicroSD card expansion.
The XPERIA X1 will be available in the second half of 2008 and will be released in black and silver versions.
