Samsung adds SOUL with flagship touch control sliderphone
Contextual icon controls on the font panel light up and change as and when their related applications are activated

Samsung is adding SOUL to its mobile range with the release of its new flagship sliderphone. Following on from the super-slim Samsung Ultra Edition series, the 12.9mm-thin SOUL (which, incidentally, stands for "Spirit Of ULtra") has an impressively full features rundown, which includes a 5-megapixel camera, 3G HSDPA high-speed mobile connectivity and a touch-sensitive control interface.
The Samsung SOUL, which has a sleek, lightweight metal casing and minimalist deisgn, is the first of Samsung's mobiles to feature its "Magic Touch" touch-sensitive user interface. This has contextual icon controls on the font panel that light up and change as and when their related applications - such as camera or music player - are activated.
The Samsung SOUL is a quad-band GSM and 3G HSDPA-enabled phone, capable of running data and browsing at speeds of up to 7.2Mbs. The display above the Magcal Touch panel is a 2.2-inch QVGA (240x320) screen.
The onboard 5-megapixel camera is enhanced with image stabilisation, face detection and Wide Dynamic Range technology recently included in Samsung's G800 camera-centric sliderphone, and has a LED flash included. Naturally, there's an onboard multi-format music player, using Bang & Olufsen ICEpower amplifier technology, plus an FM radio, while MicroSD card expansion and stereo Bluetooth are both supported.
The Samsung SOUL will makes its debut at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week, and is expected to be released in the UK and Europe in April 2008.
