Sony Ericsson has brought 5-megapixel camera technology to its Walkman lineup for the first time with the launch of the W902, a 3G HSDPA-enabled music mobile that also comes with an 8GB Memory Stick Micro memory card for track and snap storage.

Alongside the W902, Sony Ericsson has today launched two other Walkman handsets, the W595, a 3.2-megapixel camera-equipped sliderphone, and the W302 candybar model, aimed at the mass market

W902
The W902 is geared up for tune playing with a set of music player controls on the side, the latest Walkman 3.0 software featuring SensMe and Shake control technology, and room for up to 8,000 tracks on its 8GB card. Supplied with premium Sony Ericsson HPM-77 headphones, Sony Ericsson claims the W902 offers improved sound quality with 'dramatically richer bass'.

The quad-band GSM/EDGE and 3G HSDPA-enabled W902 has the usual array of Sony Ericsson mid-tier features, including high-speed downloading and streaming, video calling with a secondary camera, a full web browser, TrackID software, Google Maps application (with go-tagging of photos), FM radio and stereo Bluetooth.

The onboard 5-megapixel camera has an autofocus system built in, but uses an LED photo light rather than a Xenon flash. The W902 comes with a 2.2-inch 262K-colour QVGA display, and measures a slim 110 x 49 x 11.7mm. It will be available in 'volcanic black','wine red' and 'earth green' colours when it hits stores in the fourth quarter of 2008.

W595
The W595 Walkman sliderphone has a similar line-up of mid-tier features to the W902, although it has a 3.2-megapixel camera and a 2GB Memory Stick Micro card supplied in-box. It too has Walkman music player software with SensMe and Shake control, and like the W902, is an HSDPA-enabled quad-band 3G handset. As well as the standard Sony Ericsson functionality, the W595 is equipped with built in stereo speakers, and is supplied with a two-way splitter for earphones, so two sets of headphones can be plugged in at the same time.

The W595i has a similar display to the W902, plus features such as FM radio, video calling, full web browser, and  so on. Measuring a reasonably compact 100 x 47 x 14mm, it will be released in 'active blue', 'cosmopolitan white', 'jungle grey' and 'lava black' colour schemes when it goes on sale in the fourth quarter of this year.

W302
The W302 is a more affordable non-3G Walkman phone. It comes with a 2-megapxiel camera and is boxed with a 512MB Memory Stick Micro card and earphones. The quad-band GSM/EDGE handset has standard Walkman music phone functionality, including TrackID software and an FM radio. Its slimline 10.5mm thin candybar design features an aluminium front cover, and the W302 will be available in 'midnight black' and 'sparkling white' when it too goes on sale in the final quarter of this year.
