Nokia trials free push email service
All you need to use the service is one of the compatible handsets and a POP or IMAP email account
Nokia unveils its own free push email offering to challenge the paid-for services of Blackberry and the upcoming iPhone 3G
Nokia is about to launch a free 'push' email service that allows you to have a Blackberry-style email set-up on selected Nokia handsets.
The catchily-named Nokia Email Service allows you to receive push email - where messages just appear on your phone without signing in and checking for mail - using your current email address.
The service is currently on trial but you can sign up for an account and download the software to your phone. Just point your browser at email.nokia.com
Currently supported handsets are all Series 60 3rd edition models and mainly skewed towards the business users: the E51, E61, E61i, E65, E66, E71, E90, N73, N80, N81 8GB and the N95.
The application automatically hooks into your address book so you can start sending, receiving and forwarding messages to your mates straight from the off. You can even schedule the service to stop pushing any messages to you after a certain time - such as opening time at the local.
All you need to use the service is one of the compatible handsets and a POP or IMAP email account. And unlike the much vaunted push email feature on the upcoming iPhone 3G the Nokia service won't cost a penny to use.
But before you dump your Blackberries or cancel your iPhone 3G order you should note that corporate email and MSN Hotmail are not currently supported - although Nokia hints that they will be supported in 'future Beta releases'.

Re: Nokia trials free push email serviceI just want to clarify the word "free" as I understand this setup.
The push service itself provided by Nokia is provided free of charge however you will still be charged by your operator for the data transfer usage.
I tried using it today and it's so far so good! I'd recommend asking your mobile operator if they have an all inc data package that can save you money in the long run. I spoke to o2 today and they gave me 200mb bundle for an extra £2.50p/m.
So although free from Nokia you will be paying for data transfer costs.
