Samsung’s Galaxy S II will be coming in two hardware-specific versions. One is said to feature a Tegra 2 chipset, and the other Samsung’s own Orion set up.
In terms of gross power, there’s not much to separate the device’s spec. The only difference is that the Tegra 2 set up Galaxy S II is geared towards gaming, and the Orion set-up isn’t.
This gem of a story was uncovered by Pocket Lint whilst they were at MWC 2011.
According to Pocket Lint, “The Samsung Galaxy S II will come with Nvidia’s gaming-focused dual-core Tegra 2 chip, instead of Samsung’s own (Orion) processor.”
Which sounds fine, but the problem is that these two devices appear to be region specific – so the US could get the Tegra 2 Galaxy SII and the UK the Orion version.
Nothing has been officially confirmed by Samsung, but expect to hear more on this subject soon.
