Acer has confirmed its latest smartphone at Mobile World Congress 2011 – it’s called the Iconia Smart, has a massive 4.8-inch display and is powered by Android Gingerbread.
The device, which launches alongside the Acer Iconia Tab, is a touchscreen-oriented but features four hardware keys: : Home, Search, Back, and Menu.
Acer describes the design as “revolutionary” but we’re holding off judgement until we’ve had a proper play with it.
One cool aspect of the device is the huge display’s aspect ratio – it’s 21:9, which will make it ideal for viewing media and films on.
Other specs include an 8-megapixel camera with LED Flash on the back and a 2-megapixel on the front for video calling, Java script optimization, Adobe Flash Player 10.1 support, multiple page opening, ultra-fast high-speed connectivity via HSDPA at 14.4 and Wi-Fi ‘n’ for data connection.
There’s also DLNA-support included, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and a built in 6-axis motion-sensing gyroscope.
Acer claims this phone is 100 per cent smartphone and 100 per cent tablet, which is a rather bizarre statement – we’d probably just say that it’s a massive phone…
The Acer Iconia Smart is set for a May 1 UK release date.
