Samsung is bringing a 5-megapixel cameraphone to Europe in November with the release of the G800 - a 3G HSDPA-equipped mobile packed with camera features including a 3x optical zoom, face detection and Wide Dynamic Range technology, and a digital camera style user interface.
The Samsung G800 is a sliderphone that's also designed to look just like a standalone digital camera from the back. The 5-megapixel camera is protected by a sliding cover, while it has a Xenon flash for low-light and macro mode for close up shooting. The 3x zoom is built inside the phone casing to keep it compact when zooming in. The G800's overall measurements are 101(h) x 51.1(w) x 18.8(d) mm.
The Samsung G800 features a blogging application so users can upload still snaps or video content quickly to their online blog. The G800 introduces a new graphical user interface for Samsung cameraphones to give users the feeling of using a standalone digital camera when using the camera functions. Camera controls are shown on the phone's screen, a large 2.4-inch QVGA LCD.The G800 also comes with onboard image stabiliser and image editing functions.
All the regular 3G and multimedia functionality is supported on the Samsung G800, from video calling to high speed web browsing (at up to 3.6Mbps) plus support for audio and video downloading and streaming, Yahoo and Google search features are included, while connectivity is covered by stereo Bluetooth 2.0 and USB 2.0 support. MicroSD card memory expansion is also supported.
Samsung has announced that the G800 will be launched Europe-wide in November, although pricing details have yet to be confirmed.
