Could the Obsession, AKA Diamond 3, be the first HTC device to hit the market running Windows Phone 7

HTC CEO Peter Chou has confirmed that the Taiwanese company will be bringing its first Windows Phone 7 powered device to market this year.

With Android development gathering widespread support and Microsoft's mandatory chassis specifications, many people had begun to wonder if HTC would still be rolling out the new OS in its upcoming smartphones. It seems like the speculation can now officially end.

Contrary to rumours that HTC isn't overly impressed by Microsoft's hardware stipulations, Peter Chou, said that he is “thrilled” by the prospect of Windows Phone 7.

According to an interview with Forbes.com, Chou confirmed that HTC's first foray into the Windows Phone 7 Series will be arriving “by the end of this year”, which dovetails pretty neatly with Microsoft's own assertion of a “holidays 2010” release date for the first devices.

Whether or not the phone will be able to compete with the leaked LG Windows Phone 7 device that we've seen floating around is unknown, although the HTC handset in question could well turn out to be the Obsession, AKA Diamond 3, that broke cover a couple of months ago.
