Assassin's Creed II: Multiplayer leaps onto App Store

Assassin's Creed II: Multiplayer has stormed onto the App Store, and it's free!

Assassin’s Creed II has gone down a storm in the living room, and the iPhone version has also performed admirably well.

So it was big news when Ubisoft casually announced that a multiplayer component is in the works for the super-console stealth and free-running extravaganza.

What’s even more surprising is that it’s landed on the App Store already. Assassin's Creed II: Multiplayer is quite a divergence from the 3D titles we’ve previously seen Altair and Ezio in, played instead from a bird’s-eye-view perspective as you run around multiple environments from renaissance Italy taking out the other players.

The objective is to complete the 24 achievements and post them on Facebook as you work your way up the game’s dynamic ranking system to becoming the Master Assassin.

It requires a Wi-Fi connection to play online against up to three other assassins, but at least it’s online multiplayer and not just local.

Best of all Assassin's Creed II: Multiplayer is free for the first 48 hours (presumably to build up a good supply of online opponents before it goes paid), so get on over to the App Store as soon as possible and take it out.
