Rumour has it Microsoft will be allowing just three different chassis variants of its upcoming Windows Phone 7 Series handsets, at least initially.
While no handset specifics have been confirmed yet, it's widely regarded that the first Windows Phone 7 model to launch will be a large, high-spec, touchscreen affair.
Microsoft is demanding that any handset that wants to run the new OS will need a fairly impressive minimum specification that includes a processor of at least 1GHz, and hardware graphics acceleration.
None of this is confirmed, but the hosts' credibility isn't to be sniffed at, Michael Kordahi and Andrew Coates, both work for Microsoft Australia.
The second chassis is said to allow for handsets with a sliding-Qwerty keyboard and the third form factor is said to include candybar handsets that want to run the Windows Phone 7 Series.
That's about as much as we've heard right now, but Microsoft is clearly looking to make any handset wanting to run the new OS pack a considerable spec list. Exactly what this will consist of right now is unknown, but there's also suggestions that there will be camera, GPS and Wi-Fi stipulations too.
