Following criticisms of Apple's latest desirable gadget, the iPad, Stephen Fry has stood up in defence of the device

Stephen Fry has spoken kind words about the Apple iPad after its announcement last night sparked criticism from scores of online ‘haters’.
Many view the iPad as a bit of a disappointment – calling it nothing more than a ‘big iPhone’ or ‘big iPod Touch’ – but Fry was quick to leap to the defence of Apple’s latest device on his blog.
Fry sees the device’s current spec as the first iteration of many, and that in time its rather slimline feature set will be met by cameras, GPS and other such features. As Fry says, once the device is a fully realised gadget, “today’s nay-sayers and sceptics will have forgotten that they ever doubted its potential”.
Of course, the difference between the iPad and iPhone – where we last saw this effect – is that the iPad will be largely non-subsidised by the sounds of it, so re-investing in a new version of the device will seem like even more of a sacrifice than with the iPhone. That said, we’re still gagging to get our mitts on the first version of the iPad.
Maybe Apple should make Stephen Fry his own signature version –fryPad anyone?
