You Viewty! LG unleash man-sized Prada

It was impossible not to be impressed by LG's Prada phone. The sleek design, touch-screen keypad, three-inch display, full-screen camera viewfinder are all first for consumer mobile phones, and the branded accessories added to the overall package.

And sure enough, the Prada has sold in its thousands. And sure enough, it would have sold even more were it not so obviously such a female-friendly phone. Even the manbag-swinging metrosexuals here at Know Your Mobile weren't ready to parade a phone apparently produced by a... how can we put this... a handbag manufacturer.

So you can imagine how we raised our manly pints to the news that LG is set to unveil a man-sized touch-screen model at this week's IFA show in Berlin. Early reports suggest that not only will the 3G-enabled LG KU990 boast the same large touch-screen as the Prada, it will also include a stylus, overcoming problems some texters had when trying to pick out small individual buttons on the Prada. The stylus can also be used to draw pictures or take notes.

The KU990's large screen will also make full use of the phone's 5.1-megapixel camera. The camera features a Schneider-Kreuznach lens, a xenon flash and 'Smart-Light', for taking bright photos at night. The phone also has image stabilising technology, and video recording up to a massive 120 frames per second - unnecessarily so when you consider that this frame rate is twice as high as even HD TV.

The only obvious downside, providing LG have improved on the poor battery life of the Prada, is the KU990's nickname - the 'Viewty'. When exactly did The Sun become South Korea's best-selling newspaper? We've got that Phwoooar headline ready and waiting, guys.

More information will be available from IFA this week, but it's expected that the new phone will go on sale in Europe from October.
