The Android app store is picking up pace, and is now adding more to its catalogue each month than ever before.
The figure of 20,000 applications isn't actually official – Google's a bit shy about disclosing exactly how many apps are on the store – but thankfully, AndroLib has been keeping its eye on every addition since day one.
Delving into the numbers a little reveals that of all the apps, more than half are free; in fact 62 per cent of the catalogue is free the remaining 38 per cent are paid-for apps.
The expansion of the Android Marketplace is clearly picking up pace, with the last 10,000 apps taking less than 5-months to join the fray and reportedly more new apps this month already than in the whole of July this year.
Whilst it may pale a little in comparison to the might of the well-established iTunes App Store the achievement of hitting the 20,000 app milestone is not to be sniffed at and is a great indicator of the support that is growing so quickly for the Android platform as a whole.
